In some cases, yes. Generally, the wires for fiber will follow the path of your current HREMC electric service.
If you have underground utilities, the new fiber cables will be underground as well. TWN will make every attempt to ensure these disturbances are minimal and as non-intrusive as possible.
If you have private underground lines, we will need your help to locate these lines. Examples of private underground lines include irrigation sprinklers, gas BBQ, landscape lighting, pool equipment, or other private underground systems. Please collect any information you may have about the location of these private underground lines.
Identifying public utilities and private underground lines is an essential part of the Underground Agreement. Signing the Underground Agreement is necessary to grant TWN field crews permission to place physical markings on the ground at your property to detail the fiber path to your home. You will be able to review and approve the path prior to equipment installation.
If the wires for your HREMC electric service are overhead, your new fiber cables will generally follow that same path.
TWN will send out communications by both mail and email to make sure your property is fiber-ready. You will also begin to see construction crews in your neighborhood. Once they reach your property, locate flags will be placed with the proposed fiber path. At that time, you will know fiber will be available soon. You can stay updated by checking this progress map.
To bring HREMC’s fiber to each member, there may be a small junction box, or NID, attached near the meter location.
For members who choose to subscribe to TWN’s broadband services, TWN will install a modem (ONT) and Wi-Fi router inside the home or business.
