As construction continues on the 100% fiber network, more members are being connected daily. Currently, over 7,000 MEC members now have access to reliable, high-speed internet from TWN Communications.

Fiber-to-the-home is now available in Big Bend and Silver Creek. Soon, select neighborhoods throughout the Airport area will have access to residential fiber service as well.

Building the fiber network is a process. Before you can enjoy fast fiber internet, several steps must be completed. TWN will connect you as quickly as possible; however, each step in the construction process takes time. We appreciate your patience as we move through these steps and want you to know that sometimes we need to make a temporary fix before we return for the permanent fix.

Step 1: Network Build-Out

First, the network backbone must be built prior to being able to offer service. This involves distributing, hanging, and burying aerial or underground fiber lines to establish a physical point-to-point internet connection that can transmit data at fast speeds. This is when you need to make sure you are pre-registered for fiber service. Pre-registering lets TWN know that you are interested in fiber internet and would like crews to visit your property to ensure you are fiber-ready!

Step 2: Schedule Member TWN Site Surveys

Next, TWN will reach out to you to schedule a fiber installation site survey. At this time one of our experienced fiber technicians will discuss and visit locations around the home to recommend the best place to install the wireless router. From there, we will determine where to mount the Network Interface Device (NID) on the outside of the home so it is closely located to the router. The NID is a small box designed to provide protection for fiber-optic connectors and splices. Once this is identified and agreed upon TWN will set an orange flag at the spot of the NID so our team knows where to install the fiber from the roadside to the home.

Step 3: Fiber Line Bury

Three to six months (sometimes sooner) after fiber path confirmation, crews will arrive on-site to bury the fiber line to your home. During this step in the construction process, it is TWN’s intention to take the most efficient, least invasive route possible. It’s also important to remember that temporary fixes are not permanent fixes. Our construction team will speak to you about the restoration process. TWN crews will return multiple times to provide best efforts in restoring your property to its original state post-installation* and once finished, will have you sign off that restoration has been completed.

Step 4: Outside Equipment Placement

One week to two months after the line burial, a specialized crew will place a box on the outside of your home to hold the fiber connection. You do not need to be home for this step.

Step 5: Home Installation

Within two weeks after the outside equipment placement, TWN will notify you to schedule your inside installation. At this time, a representative can help answer any questions about our plan offerings and you will be able to pick the one that best fits your needs. During the home installation, a technician will run a fiber cable inside your house and connect it to another small box located near your Wi-Fi router known as the ONT. When the ONT is hooked up to your Wi-Fi router, you are officially connected!

If you have any issues during the fiber construction or connection process, you should call TWN right away at 888-227-2095.

The benefits of reliable, high-speed connectivity are endless. Bringing fiber-to-the-home is worth the wait!
